Welcome to our inaugural quarterly planning update for the first quarter of 2026. What are we doing right now?

This question provides the theme for this recurring update and is meant to share what I would do if I were you in managing my own finances. So what are we doing right now?

This question can best be answered with another question: What's one thing that everyone is asking on New Year's Eve?
New Year's resolutions.

So in the spirit of getting financially fit as the calendar rolls into a new year, we are focused on goal tracking. These conversations are centered around several simple questions.

What's important to me?
Where do I stand right now?
And where do I want to go?

Just as in driving somewhere, it's my belief that we need to know where we are going, map out what we have going for us, and then move ahead.

When was the last time you looked at your balance sheet?
Or simply what you own and what you owe?
Also, do you have a decent idea of your personal income statement?
Or simply put, what income you're bringing in and what spending looked like over this past year.

Next, how are you invested and how did that do in 2025?
Where were the weaknesses and where were the strengths?
Are there any changes our portfolios may need to accommodate based on current conditions?

These are all questions we try and answer for clients during this season.

Lastly, we want to feel confident a portfolio supports that final destination I mentioned in the beginning of this dialogue. In my opinion, investments can be great tools, but are just that. They are the means, not the end. Goal tracking is important as we embark on a new year.

I feel this helps us re-identify what's important to use, measure where we are at, and move forward accordingly.
